Featuring Jennifer Moss, a workplace expert, public speaker, and award-winning journalist. Moss authored the recent HBR article, “Beyond Burned Out,” and is author of the forthcoming book, The Burnout Epidemic.

The risk of burnout has existed in our constantly connected world for some time. However, in 2020, it suddenly became widespread, and now, well into 2021, intense stress has persisted and shows no signs of subsiding.

In this article written for Harvard Business Review Jennifer Moss discusses how leaders and their organizations can help prevent burnout.

Preventing Burnout in the Workplace

According to Jennifer Moss in her recent HBR article “Beyond Burned Out,” today’s level of burnout is the result of an existing problem made exponentially worse. But by knowing the organizational signals of stress, we can course correct for the future.

On April 14, in a live, interactive HBR webinar, Moss will describe the severity of the burnout crisis and will share specific actions organizations can take to assist their employees. In addition, Moss will discuss:

  • The real causes of burnout and why burnout has gotten so bad

  • The results of her research that gathered feedback from more than 1,500 respondents in 46 countries, in various sectors, roles, and seniority levels, in the fall of 2020

  • What employers have done to contribute to burnout

  • How companies can help prevent burnout—including providing employees a sense of purpose, ensuring a manageable workload, and making sure employees have an empathetic manager and can discuss their mental health at work
